Yep Nuala is right. I need a solar panel and some tubing before I can put in the new one. I'm trying to get them sorted.

I'm sure it would have a battery pack which allows it to store energy?

It explains the mechanism well enough. Learned this formula P=ρgh long time ago but is the first time to see it actually is doing any good for us.

The unit doesn't appear to be quiet energy consuming as it works in one of the two modes: periodical monitoring (30 sec every 15 mins) and on-demand monitoring (react to ph calls). Ley! you're right. That's 12V Gel-Cell Battery.  ;D

That has changed a bit since that page was done, the phone has been replaced with a Siemens TC35 modem in most of the gauges because the phones can be hard to get, and very hard to wire, with the TC35 on that board the modem stays on all the time, so the system uses more power. Daithi has designed a new PCB to run with the modems but I haven't seen it yet.

Not as easy as it sounds! And solar panels don't work very well in the shade!
